[Error: unknown template qotd]Respect. The kind of respect you show your best friend. In fact, your SO should be one of your bestest friends, IMO. Respect meaning loving them deeply, but also giving them the room to be their own best self, while being there to help them pick themselves up as necessary. Not letting arguments descend into pettiness and name-calling. Liking them enough to see you through all the ups and downs, and the ins-and-outs of romantic love, that are inevitable in the long term. Respect.

I definitely agree.
Respect would have been my answer too.
This is definitely the most important thing. How could you trust or love someone who doesn't respect you?
