one compartment less...

Though I am not the sort for new year resolutions, this time of year does seem to almost inevitably prompt a sense of reviewing my life. And this time round it became clearer and clearer to me that it was time to dismantle at least one compartment in my LJ life. Or indeed lives. Compartmentalising doesn’t come all that naturally to me (though discretion does), and I think I’ll be happier once I’ve made this post.

I really don’t expect anyone to care very much, one way or the other, as it seems to be all about me. I am doing this for my own sake, and really not expecting much of a reaction! (But you know, react if you want to… Of course!)

What I want to say is this: I first joined LJ in June 2008 as slashweaver, for the sake of Die Hard 4 fandom. Then I fell hard for Merlin, right from the first episode… dashed off my first Merlin slash fic immediately after the second episode… was amused but not madly surprised to discover that merlinxarthur had existed for a week already… tried to resist the notion of Bradley/Colin…

The thing is, I’ve been writing RPS for decades, but never shared it with anyone before, beyond a handful of trusted friends. But there was something about the glorious OTP that is Bradley/Colin that I couldn’t resist. I started writing, and knew that I’d be posting it as well. I wanted to share in this wonderful pairing! But I also wanted to keep the RPS secret, I wanted to draw a line between that and my various interests as slashweaver. So in March 2009 I created mrs_leary and The RPS Compartment.

So! If all remains well between us, my friends, then I’ll cry hurrah! And let’s get on with loving the stuffing out of our wonderful show and our marvellous young men! (And indeed, our old men. And our women of all ages. And… oh you get the idea!) Hurrah!
