A song for each decade
Aug. 24th, 2008 10:28 amSince a previous Writer's Block question , I haven't been able to get that lovely daggy old Sherbet song out of my head... but it got me thinking. Which songs define each decade for me? Or maybe more to the point, which songs have been my favourite in each decade? Of course I am showing my age here, as there is more than one decade involved! Anyway, here is what I came up with:
70s: Summer Love by Sherbet
80s: Homosapien by Pete Shelley
90s: Remedy by The Black Crowes
00s: Fall Your Way by Pete Murray
You know what? I'm rather pleased with that list!
And I am beginning to convert to the wonders of YouTube... Back when all this started for me in 1975, the only way to see the Summer Love video was to stay glued to the TV when Countdown broadcast each weekend, and then catch the repeat the following week. And once a song was out of the Top Ten, then it was all over. No videotapes, no DVD extras... But now I can watch this whenever I like, catch the Black Crowes' video which I'd never seen before, see a clip of Pete Murray performing in Amsterdam... We take this for granted already, but it wasn't that long ago that things were so very very different!
