Date: 2009-11-29 03:48 pm (UTC)I did watch ep 9 & 10.
I rather like ep 9 I don't know why so many people dislike it. It was beautiful. But Merlin turning and using his magic against Arthur = baaad!
Ep 10 was funny. I liked Vivien xDxD And, yeah, I've already forgotten about the all Gwen stuff, it could have been nice if they didn't already ruin the pairing for me at the beginning of the season.

Date: 2009-11-29 03:56 pm (UTC)But, what...? Merlin using magic against Arthur...? Gosh, do you mean crashing that gargoyle down? I took that to be a mere delaying tactic. And afterwards Merlin never once even reproached Arthur for killing the girl he'd fallen for... I wouldn't say any of that was bad! But then we are doomed to disagree, aren't we, hon? At least until I write my Arthurian novel, which will be partly for you. ♥

Date: 2009-11-29 04:08 pm (UTC)Aren't they just so funny together?
Well... The point is that the gorgoyle fell exactly where Arthur were and imagine Arthur didn't actually see it? Even if Merlin use his magic to give the girl a chance to
runfly away, for me, he used it "against" Arthur. And it just feels wrong. He could have hurt him or worst. By the way he decided to abandon Arthur by running away with Freya so... So much about destiny, isn't it?And... I don't know why Merlin would reproach Arthur anything because Arthur didn't know Merlin loves this girl. And Arthur has to keep his people safe. But I suppose that if Arthur knew about it, perhaps he would have help the girl to run away. He did it for Mordred. Now, because of Morgause's "trick", nobody can be really sure.
You know, I have given up about logical relationships and development of the story in Merlin. There are just too many things that don't fit anymore. But it is ok, I watch because of what I like and try to let go all that I dislike ;)
Can't wait to read your story, ma petite puce^^

Date: 2009-11-29 06:35 pm (UTC)My version of Merlin has utter faith in Arthur's skills. He knew Arthur would get out of the way in time. And it had to be a serious threat to Arthur, otherwise he'd just leap over it and keep going - he had to be forced out of the way. If Merlin thought Arthur wasn't going to see it in time, he could have slowed down time (as he does) and saved him. For me, it comes down to Merlin having utter faith in Arthur's skills and in his own skills. And I couldn't expect him to just stand by and watch Arthur kill Freya. That would be asking too much from a young man in such a situation.
Yes, he did use his magic 'against' Arthur. But then Arthur has used his strength and drawn his sword 'against' Merlin in the past. Did that bother you, too? I think they trust themselves, and they trust each other. They KNOW each other - well, except for that pesky little secret about the magic, of course! :-)
And, yes, in the first passionate throes of finding someone he thinks is a kindred soul, someone he thinks he's in love with - someone he can be himself with! what bliss he found that! - Merlin did dream about leaving Camelot for a simpler life, and just being himself. Haven't we all been there before? Wanting to run away. It was in the context of falling out with Arthur, and generally feeling overworked and unappreciated, and feeling that no one really knows or understands him. But we never actually see him leave, do we? Maybe he wouldn't have, when it came down to it. Or maybe he would have gotten Freya away for the sake of saving her life, but then sooner or later discovered that he had to return, for his own sake. I think the notion of his and Arthur's destinies being entwined holds strong, despite the Dragon's agenda being compromised - but it wouldn't be realistic to have Merlin feeling 100% certain of that all the time, and it wouldn't be realistic to have him never wanting to turn away from it, and just living what seems to be a simple happy life. (Of course it would never have worked out as simple and happy, cos he didn't know who and what Freya really was.) But it was a dream. A dream that didn't involve a destiny of polishing the prince's vast collection of boots on a regular basis. Sometimes this whole destiny thing wouldn't look very glorious, would it? :-)
I agree that Merlin can't really reproach Arthur (nor indeed Gaius), and that the story played out as it had to from that point. But I think it shows some largeness of heart and mind for Merlin to grieve for Freya and yet reconcile with Arthur (and be comforted by Gaius), without once resisting their advances of friendship. There was no bitterness or regret or resentment in Merlin's manner towards Arthur, not even for a moment. I'm not sure if that purity of intent, that clear sight and fair-mindedness, came from Colin or from the director or the writer, but I was impressed by it. (I don't expect you to be! You can take the prince's part, if you like. Neither of them have anything to be ashamed about, as they always did their best based on what they knew at the time.)
I haven't given up on the show yet, and I am still holding all the pieces together... just about! Like many genre shows, the week-to-week writing can be a bit weak. And I think there are things they're not telling us yet, which would help soem things fall into place - whether they're wise to hold those in reserve or not, only time will tell. For instance, I think the creators know the full, logical story of Uther and Ygraine, and Arthur's conception and birth (and the parts played by Nimueh, Tristan and Morgause) - but they've only given us snippets, and some of those don't quite line up. Maybe they will make sense once we're given more info - maybe they should give us more info now, rather than risk turning people off the show. I don't know! But I'm willing to watch and wait for it to all play out...

Date: 2009-11-29 07:22 pm (UTC)Regarding Merlin, I think we all know now that he is not destined to be with Arthur. It is his choice to stay with him, so, it wasn't treachery or something like that to wish to go away with Freya. By the way, Arthur has Gwen (*inserts cries*) and Merlin for the very first time found someone he cares about. So, it is understandable. Being free to be who he really is is certainly tempting. Not lying to the one he loves too.
Merlin is really remarkable. I don't know how he is suceeding to go on with everything happening to him. He is taking so much on himself. Because, this season, Arthur haven't really be easy with him and he is betraying "his" kind very often to keep Arthur safe. Merlin is certainly the best friend everyone wished they could have. *pets him*
Well... I'm pretty sure they know where they're going about Uther's story and Mordred's and I know that I'll go on with watching the show, the worst already happened for me and I have been stronger! \^O^/
The only thing I am really disappointed in is that first season was so promising and I wished they could have keep the whole show that way. I don't know why they decided to stick that much to the legends in season 2 when they haven't in season 1. Sad. I was hoping for something new.
Thankfully, we have a great cast^^

Date: 2009-12-03 10:52 am (UTC)I'd have just stood there gaping stupidly at the gargoyle, and been in danger of being squashed, too. Though of course Merlin would have saved us - you or me or Arthur, he's not going to want to have harmed, least of all by himself! :-)
Ah, so you don't believe in the destiny thing any more? I still do, within the terms of the show. However, I also firmly agree with you that Merlin is choosing to stay. He could instead have chosen to walk away, even if it would have wrenched his soul in two to do it.
And I totally agree with you about us thankfully having a great cast! The show wouldn't amount to much at all if it weren't for our six main cast members, and in particular the boys. Colin and Bradley make Merlin and Arthur both so charming and loveable and heroic - I can't imagine any other young actors doing even half as good a job.
I am crossing my fingers for you... I trust the coming episode with Mordred and Morgana will be all you could wish for! ♥♥♥

Well... I do enjoy Merlin. It's just that I was so delighted with everything in season 1 and season 2 just didn't keep its promises. Well, regarding me^^
But, yes, I'll always have Arthur because Bradley is still my favorite Arthur ever and it is a huge compliment because I've always like Arthur a lot.
(One day, I'll meet him and have his dam autograph xD Right now, I'm happy with my Angel's and Katie's one^^)
And, sure, next week Morgana and Mordred! \^O^/
Love you too, ma petite puce!
And the best thing about Merlin fandom? I met YOU!♥♥♥

Date: 2009-12-03 10:41 am (UTC)I am so delighted that you enjoy Bradley's Arthur that much. When you finally meet him, you'll have to tell him he's your favourite Arthur (while he's signing something for you), and I'm sure he'll realise what a huge compliment it is. And he deserves huge compliments. He deserves you!
You are so utterly kind to me. Of course I don't believe you when you say I'm the best thing for you in this fandom... but I could listen to you murmuring such sweet nonsense to me all day... ♥♥♥♥♥
